It is said that to understand the Palestinian-Israeli conflict you need to read 40 books. I have read 80 and this book gave me new information that I did not have. Between the Israeli narrative that they have no Palestinian partner for peace and the Palestinian narrative that Oslo was a good deal that the Israelis simply refuse to consummate, lies a story of a non-violent resistance that was on its way to bringing peace to the Middle East when Oslo happened - but still could succeed. Mr. Kuttab identifies all of the players in this conflict, including American evangelicals, and the roles they need to take in order for peace to be possible.

Jonathan Kuttab is a Palestinian attorney whose life and work has been at the center of Palestinian justice work going back many decades. This book tells his story of much of this work through the First Intifada and his role in the Peace Accords with Israel in the 1990's as well as the aftermath. Throughout it's clear that his life and work have been grounded in a deep Christian faith as well as in his training in the U.S. in the law. Well worth reading for those who know some of this history and also for those wanting an introduction from a committed and spirit-led Palestinian.
