As a person going through conversion, this book is the one that I turn to regularly to help clarify and understand everything about Judaism. It’s also the primary learning book for my conversion class and we use it as a leaping off point for lectures, discussions, and questions. I especially appreciate how well this book blends information with a lovely poetic voice, adding a sense of beauty and awe as it asks some giant questions like, “where was God when...”

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to have a solid beginner’s foundation of understanding of Judaism.

I bought this book to learn about the religion of some of my ancestors. I am a Catholic and knew some things about the living and practice of Judaism, but I learned so much more by reading Living Judaism. The roots of Christianity and the early Church are so clearly in the Jewish faith and what struck me as so special is how this faith binds the Jewish people into such a strong world wide community. It is easy to read and easy to understand, for a non-Jewish person. The essays are wonderful lessons for everyone. I recommend it highly.

Super interesting book, but more importantly this Rabbi seems so kind and delivers the faith in an easy to understand way. He also compares and contrasts certain pieces of the faith in one chapter, and it really helped understand how things are similar but different.

Rabbi Dosick has compiled a wonderful introduction to Judaism that provides a clear window for the outsider to peer into this historic, sometimes puzzling, world that is Judaism. Broken down into logical categories, the book is also indexed, so it can be used as an easy reference. Topics include descriptions of the various Jewish sects, Jewish holidays, the Holocaust, Jewish views of non-Jews, life after death, and discussions about all the major Jewish rituals. As three of the world's major religions trace their beginnings back to Abraham, this book should prove a help to most who are unfamiliar with their ties to Judaism.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. While it does have a lot of useful information on many general topics, it is severely lacking in some other areas, especially when it comes to the pluralism the book claims to celebrate, acknowledge, and honor. It was very clear to me when reading that the author was incredibly biased, often ignoring, misrepresenting, or diminishing differing interpretations, beliefs, and practices. It also pushes tons of misinformation when it comes to Israel and uncritically praises and glorifies Israel and exhibits vicious contempt towards any form of criticism of Israel of Zionism.

Rabbi Dosick definitely has an engaging style when writing (and I'm sure speaking for that matter)......and on the surface some of what he has to say is delightful and insightful for those who want to learn more about Judaism. Jews and christians alike could be drawn to his style, whit, charm, and information. He in my opinion (and his wife), represent a dangerous influence in the Jewish community; they embody the warnings that G-d lays out throughout the Tenach (Old Testament): beware of the gods of this world! They both not only 'flirt' with the realms of darkness (alway in an inviting way), but in reality, with a firm embrace welcome the reader in, but with carefully chosen words, as not to give away their true position. So reader beware! In the end this book is dangerous for those that care about what G-d ultimately thinks about the way of life for Jews (and really all people for that matter). Rabbi Dosick is a false prophet in the end, he would have stood with Korah over G-d's 'sinkhole'. There is so much interesting here but it is laced with poison for the soul and spirit..............avoid the temptation. G-d is better than this and so is Judaism in it's biblical form. In the end, this is a treatise for 'new age' thinking, wrapped in Jewish 'garb'. john e
