Israeli settlers blocked Haaretz journalists from reaching a Palestinian home in the West Bank village of Qusra on Monday, attacking a reporter and photographer as they tried to reach the isolated property.

Soldiers at the scene refused to assist the attacked journalists – Haaretz's West Bank reporter, Matan Golan, and photographer Itai Ron – as their car was blocked by settlers for two hours. The soldiers presented them with an order for a closed military zone, even though the order was not enforced on the settlers.

The incident occurred near a newly established settler outpost built on Sunday in a yard of the Palestinian home in Area B (territory under Palestinian administrative control). Settlers also blocked the family's access to the village with rocks. The family says they now fear leaving the house.

When Border Police forces arrived more than an hour later, settlers sat on the hood of their vehicle. The officers said they were waiting for orders to remove them, and later accompanied the settlers out of the area. The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately respond to Haaretz's request for comment.

Settlers were filmed in the yard of the house around midday on Sunday and, according to a village resident, attempted to damage infrastructure. Residents called the police after the settlers arrived, he said. Some 40 minutes later, settlers in military garb arrived, and an ATV came down from the outpost and headed toward the village, the resident recalled.

According to the resident, settlers and soldiers went up together to the outpost at the top of the hill. Hours later, the settlers came down and erected a tent beside the house's wall. Settlers in military garb joined them and prayed with them, he said.

Qusra

On Sunday, Israeli soldiers removed a Palestinian family from its home in Arraba, south of Jenin in the northern West Bank, and turned the house into a temporary military outpost ahead of the inauguration of a new settlement nearby, in a ceremony attended by ministers and lawmakers.

Homeowner Hazem Hamad told Haaretz that the army notified him of the evacuation last night. At 7 A.M., he left the house with his wife and children and returned after 1 P.M. after forces left. Hamad emphasized that the soldiers did not damage the family's property or harm his home. The army also blocked the road connecting Arraba with the nearby village of Ya'bad.

According to Hamad, the forces took over the entire house. He stressed that it is a residential home where he lives with his wife and five children – four daughters and a son – and not a building under construction. This is the first time, he said, that the army has taken over his home in this manner.

A Haaretz investigation published in December described how, with the backing of the military, settlers drive Palestinians from their homes in Area B, which is under Palestinian civil control, through harassment, threats, violence and vandalism until residents leave. As the IDF and settlers push out nearly all Palestinian communities from Area C (under Israeli control), which covers roughly 60 percent of the West Bank, expulsion is advancing into Areas A and B (under Palestinian control) under the army's watch.

About two weeks ago, settlers set fire to a mosque in Qusra and in the village of Kur, southeast of Tulkarm, according to footage filmed by residents. Residents described extensive damage to the mosque, which was also vandalized with graffiti; settlers also damaged residents' property and stole from them.

Following the incidents, police said they arrested two settlers on suspicion of involvement in the arson attacks and the vandalism in the village.

West Bank Palestinians have to fight back. Take out these settlers. It's better to die on your feet than to continue living on your knees.

Yes, brave professional Matan Golan. Naturally, Satanyaho, Benghavir, Smotrich and army settlers are all a one gang of criminals who should be tried for crimes against humanity and freedom of Haaretz journalists the vanguard of world journalism. Can't thank you Haaretz enough for your priceless efforts.

The soldiers are on the wrong side of history. However, young and ignorant, they simply don't understand this. Sad, upsetting.

I don't excuse the soldiers for their behavior. Young and ignorant? They should have a sense of common decency. Yes, their prefrontal cortexes won't be fully developed until age 25, but at 15 I could have sized up the situation and figured out that the settlers were garbage.

When you see the IDF—that militia of killers—and the terrorist settlers praying, you understand why Israelis are the lowest-performing students in the OECD. They lack the necessary proficiency in reading and mathematics.

I am shocked. According to what all Israeli officials tell Western media, there is no ethnic cleansing occurring in the West Bank. And according to what virtually all Western media say, Israel is a democracy. Actually, the only democracy in the Middle East (apparently, Türkiye is not a democracy). - As far as I am concerned the failure of Western journalists to do their duty and tell the truth, is one of the main reasons why the West is rapidly declining, and why Israel will most probably not survive to its 100th birthday.

Israel has never been a democracy, nothing but a terrorist state since it's inception. Hopefully Israel's existence will come to an end within the next decade.

' Israeli Settlers Block, Attack Haaretz Crew on Way to Palestinian West Bank Village, IDF Refused to Intervene '

It seems that Israelis are still no further forward in whatever might be their objectives as regards the West Bank and, indeed, the Holy Land in general.

There are just too many rival forces and ambitions contending for space and security in a region left for far too long without any means of establishing long-term control over so fatally fractious and fundamentally flawed a situation.

And if there is ever to be closure in a land riddled with so much religious and nationalist fervour, the process will need to be of a type and on a scale second to none.

People often think George Orwell's Animal Farm is about the dangers of communism. But it's about the corruption of power. I can't help but see the pigs and the farmers all at one table negotiating and now indistinguishable.
