"Truth First" is the opening of the most famous J'Accuse in modern history, by Émile Zola. "Truth First" is also the motive that inspires this J'Accuse, which collects the testimony of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967.

This book was not conceived as an instant book. Before the attacks of October 7, 2023—at a time when media attention on the situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories was close to zero—J'Accuse was intended, above all, to be a tool to communicate to readers the urgency of an issue that could not be ignored. Through the valuable work carried out by Francesca Albanese and resulting in three international reports—presented in October 2022, July, and October 2023, respectively—it was possible to indisputably document the emergence of a state of apartheid and neocolonial occupation, resulting in thousands of victims. This fact needed to be brought to the attention of the general public.

After the brutal and intolerable attack by Hamas and the ensuing war on Gaza, media attention on Israel and Palestine has reached a fever pitch, yet it remains mired in misleading juxtapositions (if you criticize Israel, you're on the side of the terrorists; if you focus on the occupation, you're justifying Hamas...), which impede understanding a history that didn't begin on October 7th. Francesca Albanese's J'Accuse is not the biased intervention of an activist, but the contribution of a woman who has held a high-profile institutional position for years and who can help us see and understand what we don't see.

Roberta De Monticelli's extensive essay that concludes the book also offers a profound insight into the themes this conflict has highlighted.

A terrible read, full of facts and details, which illuminates the drama of a people, the Palestinians, which unfolds over decades and amidst the substantial indifference of the rest of the world. When questioning the roots of violence and terrorism, you need to read books like this.

Israel is a state committing genocide, covered up by much of European and American politics.

This book exposes the situation with facts and evidence. The author describes the situation perfectly with journalistic flair, and the title is a declaration for posterity.
