Fifteen years ago, during a 2011 speech at the Institute for National Security Studies, a Tel Aviv think tank with close ties to the security establishment, then-Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned that Israel was about to face "a diplomatic tsunami, of which most of the public is not aware."

I do not agree that Germany will shortly give up defending Israel when it comes to substantial EU sanctions, other than symbolic ones, maybe.

I rather guess there may be some superficial / cosmetic softening of israeli actions under a „new" PM, which can immediately be hailed as big breakthrough - maybe a handful of settler terrorists will get limited prison sentences, from some part of Lebanon or Syria the israeli forces will leave, or some kind of slight „improvement" gets under way in the Gaza hell …

Then the page can be turned, business as usual will resume- mutual arms deliveries and intelligence cooperation, goods from the WB settlements imported without proper labeling and dutyfree, criticism vs Israel will continue to be labeled as antisemitism (following IHRA) - only an Israel-friendly Germany is a good Germany. Not the facts do count, but „never again" means always 100% pro-Israel.

I don't know about the diplomatic tsunami, which all considered seems more or less contained. What nobody I know foresaw is the extent of the tsunami in antisemitism. And sadly, with that in place what Israel is going to do next is probably not going to matter that much.

Rising antisemitism is a vast topic. Here's one thought, from among the 10,000 that are vying for my attention: a lot of folks around the world are bugged that their national Jewish communities aren't speaking out against the current regime's clearly fascists tendancies. Is it okay to attack those communities over this? Obviously not.

So former Israeli Labour Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak was 100% correct in his prediction when he stated that by avoiding the dialogue with the Palestinians and agreeing on the two-states resolution. But it was two-fold: the literal destructive tsunami where thousands killed was the October 7 massacre with the ensuing destruction of Gaza, the Lebanon war and the Israeli/U.S./Iranian war and now with the diplomatic tsunami from the international community which will further isolate Israel. This is the reason the upcoming Israeli election is pivotal.

Regime change in Israel will be no change at all because the world now realizes that Israel never intended to be a democracy where "all inhabitants are completely equal socially and politically" as was fallaciously promised in its Declaration of Independence.

Israel through its own, in your face, arrogance has become its own existential threat.

No, the Israeli Declaration of Independence specifically mentions the ideals and principles sought and can only work in such a pluralistic society which it remains. Read the terms which are based on the U.N. Charter. Netanyahu's current government is hopefully the temporary regime change Israel has experience in challenging its democracy and institutions from the norm of the Israeli ethos.

Israel is only a pluralistic society in the sense of the old joke: two Jews = three opinions.

Diplomatic tsunami is like saying Polar Vortex weather, here. Yeah, it happens. That is, 3 months of chilly weather for our winter. And let's not leave out, maybe, 1 week of Polar Vortex during these Winter months. It never gets too cold to work, here. And when the heat index is 100 +, we know what to do. Or, d*e. And, we still work 365 + days a year. So, uh, what's this journalists position at his/her occupation? As it stands now? Some people have their own way with words. This is when you got 'em. Don't feel sorry for them, otherwise, they'll keep doing it. Whatever it is they think they're good at, I.e., trying to avoid manual labor. Which needs to be brought back indefinitely. Or no nation will rebuild its status quo, if you will. It can't happen without manual labor occurring. And Elon's robots just ain't getting it.
